HIPPIES TAKE OVER TOWN
Local town residents terrorised with nudity and free thinking
Nimbin was a small dying dairy town in the early 70s. But a hoard of university students descended on the town in 1973 to hold the Aquarius Festival which changed the town forever.
Episode 3, Never Normal Nimbin, traces the history of Nimbin and it’s rise from dying dairy town to the third most popular tourist destination in its home state of New South Wales.
We speak with town elders including local musician, Neil Pike (pic) about how the town has changed and discover its ongoing role as an example of effective alternative living.
